According to the people I talked to at Incomm Data who build the modem the 4800 is a 2400 with MNP compression (Level-5?) to get double speed > > Features: > "fully compatible" with Hayes AT commands & register set. > Bell 103/212, CCIT V.22/V.22bis > internal speaker with software volume control The speaker is a tiny one and distorts badly the dial tone and dialing if you turn it up to here call progress. I just set it low and let the modem do the work. > > Overall, I'm happy (==satisfied) with it, enough that I'm about ready to sell > my old reliable USR Password finally. I had to ask them for a warranty card, which wasn't packed (and > which I haven't sent back in yet, now that I think of it...) > -- > bob,mon (bobmon@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu) The modem uses a z80 to drive it and I suspect its just a eprom change to support MNP-4. They did imply an addon card to support 4800. Since I got my first one I got 12 more for work to use for uucp. Not as nice as a Telebit but far less money. I haven't had any problem using it for both inbound and outbound uucp on the same line under Xenix. It does save the speed you used to set the modem up with so that an ATZ or DTR toggle will put the modem back where you want it. Watch out for some uucico's tho because it does need about .5 sec after a CR to execute before it will take the next command. (Attention Apollo users: I have patched uucico to work with the modem under DOMAIN/IX 9.5 - SR10 HDB works great out of the box. send e-mail for the 9.5 executables) I belive the 4.2BSD uucico dialers also have this type of problem because they send CR ATD # CR. I don't know what extra you get if you buy the Incomm name. The best price has to be from Comark / USAFLEX in Glendale Hts, Il. Steve Piette Regional Systems Engineer Apollo Computer Inc.
