Everex 2400 modems come with a communications program called called BITCOM. The XON/XOFF characters being echoed back can be eliminated by the following patch in the Bitcom terminal emulation file. Put it anywhere between INBUFFER and END. 0x11 0x00 0x13 0x00 I assume the INBUFFER section simply defines translations that take place when a character is read from the host port. The patch will therefore translate XON (hex 11) and XOFF (hex 13) to zero. I still don't know why I have this problem using TELENET and not COMPUSERVE. Disabling XON/XOFF on TELENET (DISA_FLOW) has no effect. Thanks to all who answered for setting me straight.
