There doesn't seem to be much sense in supporting a mag like BYTE anymore with one's money. I used to read BYTE because of its informative articles on computer science theory _and_ practise. I don't care about those really boring articles concerned with the "127 newest IBM PS/2 compatible keyboard brushes with 3D graphic evaluation, tested by BYTE labs ..." If I want to have mags concerned with pc's I can get my hands on a couple that are far better than BYTE. I don't need to pay DM 150.00 (that's about US$ 75.00, folks over there) just to get a pile of paper which is almost worthless to me! Where are those *really* "in-depth" articles (I don't consider mere reprints of articles which appeared *years* ago as up-to-date in-depth!) we liked so much? Where's Bruce Webster? Where is the column about what's going on in Japan or the UK? Where is the coverage of the new UNIX micros? But - I almost forgot: There still is BIX! BIX - The BYTE Replacement? I don't know, because it'd be *really* expensive to connect up to BIX from over here, from West Germany. Yes, I mean BIX, "the international network." BIX? Forget it (outside the US!). I subscribed to "BYTE - The Small Systems Journal" - What I received during the last 2 months was "BYTE - A McGraw Hill Publication." Where are those 2 issues of "BYTE - The Small Systems Journal"? Somehow I didn't get them ... To sum it up: A masterpiece of getting rid of one's subscribers. - Dirk Husemann ------------------ Smile, tomorrow will be worse! ------------- Email: dkhusema@immd4.informatik.uni-erlangen.de Or: {pyramid,unido}!fauern!faui44!dkhusema Mail: Dirk Husemann, Aufsess-Str. 19, D-8520 Erlangen, West Germany Phone: (Home) +49 9131 302036, (Business) +49 9131 857908 ------------------ Did I say smile?
