In my case, the factory settings were "closed-closed" and, of the four possible permutations--all of which I tried--that was easily the _worst_ setting. These switches have nothing to do with the ImageWriter printing uni- or bi-directionally; David Casseres explained that the IWII always prints bidirectionally, except for the first few lines of the page, and that this is under control of the printer's ROM. He suggested I take the printer to a dealer for alignment. I may do that, since the print quality is still not as good as the NLQ Pica sample packed with the printer. (I assume that the trip from the factory to the dealer has something to do with this.) But the new DIP switch setting is a major improvement. -- Dean Gallant, Ctr Behav Sci, 33 Kirkland St, Cambridge MA 02138 617-495-3801 drg@wjh12.harvard.edu drg@harvunxw.BITNET {genrad|harvard|talcott}!wjh12!drg
