Their scheme employs fully-redundant, "hot-backup" voting pairs of 680xx processors -- no processing gain is attempted through parallelism. They were formed by a bunch of Multics aficionados, who wanted to see that system run on a micro, and instead of making another "me too" supermicro, they targed the niche field of fault-tolerant computing. I used to work for the competition (Tandem).
