If you're sure that you aren't going to get decent transmit rates, you could talk to the modem at 4800. You can still get a lot of data buffered if it turns out that the connection is really only 2000 bps, but it should fail less often. It would be nice if the Trailblazer had an S-register to control the local buffer's high-water mark.
