The System/3x's support RJE (Remote Job Entry) with optional packages, and from what I understand, the RSCS protocols use a RJE protocol called NJE (Network Job Entry) - then again, the manuals are at work and it's a Sunday... As far as the "AS####" machines you mention - they don't sound like an IBM part number. Lots of machines such as DEC VAXes, Burroughs mainframes, etc. are on the net, all using RSCS.
