A multivariate statistical package written in C and running under UNIX and
MS-DOS is Gary Perlman's |STAT package, now in v 5.3 (I think).  My
understanding of the license is that I can send copies to requestors
but cannot duplicate the manuals (not a problem, it has man pages).

|STAT5 provides a wide range of statistical routines, including regression,
ANOVA, simple time series, data manipulation, etc.  Sources total about
1MB.  I have a copy of Gary's current e-mail address at another site; if
you want it, send me mail.

UCBerkeley has another one that is more expensive ($500 to academic sites,
more to others) and someone at Caltech wrote a regression package that
was written in C (sorry, name escapes me). SHAZAM, from White at the 
University of British Columbia Eco Department, used by many econometrics
grad courses, is written in FORTRAN but a UNIX version is available.  It
costs about the same as the UCB package.
