We're talking apples and oranges here.   DOS had a huge installed base.
It was IBM coming out with the new system, not a 3rd party, and
certainly not Atari.   I think one of the reasons Atari is afraid
to break any programs is becuase then they wont have any.  Quite
a few of the Atari software is no longer supportted either becuase
the company went out of business or is unwilling to spend any more
resources on Atari development.  This means if Atari breaks it, it 
is broken forever and it's no longer something they can demo at Comdex.
