We're talking apples and oranges here. DOS had a huge installed base. It was IBM coming out with the new system, not a 3rd party, and certainly not Atari. I think one of the reasons Atari is afraid to break any programs is becuase then they wont have any. Quite a few of the Atari software is no longer supportted either becuase the company went out of business or is unwilling to spend any more resources on Atari development.
