And no, you can't necessarily just drop it in and expect everything to be fine. Anything that depends on software timing loops is subject to failure (and I've seen lots of machines that just wouldn't boot for various timing problems, but worked fine if you could get them booted). If it WILL work in your particular machine, you don't need to make any hardware changes.
