Keywords: MacDoctor Dove MacSnap Message-ID: <374@fedeva.UUCP> Date: 22 Aug 88 12:42:03 GMT Distribution: na Organization: Fly-By-Night Delivery Service Lines: 35 Many moons ago, I purchased a 128 Mac (Couldn't afford a 512). Two years later, I used MacDoctor to upgrade to a 512. Then I had a local computer store install the 128k ROM upgrade. Now I have received the Dove MacSnap 548S upgrade, 512KE -> 2MB. Because of the sockets installed by MacDoctor, my mother board is in the shop getting at least two of the RAM chips de-socketed and mounted directly to the board surface. The raised RAM chips prevent the Dove board from snapping into place. My questions: 1. If only the two offending chips are lowered, there is only a very small clearance between the bottom of the Dove board and the top of the remaining socketed RAM chips. Dove says that it won't be a problem. Any first hand experience out there?? 2. The local computer shop is concerned that my power supply may not be able to handle the increased load of the new Dove board for very long. I purchased my Mac in Sept. 1984. Any viewpoints? Is there a power supply upgrade? ( I will be added a SystemSaver fan/surge surpressor before I use the new board.) 3. With the 128K ROMs, 2MB RAM memory, SCSI port, and 2 800K disk drives, will I have the functional equivalent of a MacPlus? I know that I should be scraping the whole thing and buying a Plus or SE, but I haven't had any problems with my Mac in the past four years and can't seem to financially justify its complete replacement. Thanks in advance for any responses to my questions! -- Dataman ( ...!hplabs!csun!fedeva!dataman) `Peace on Earth' was all it said ...
