If there is an "upgrades to the Commercial version of SuperSpool 5.0", I did not receive it, or know anything about it. The following are some of my experiences with the Version 5.0 that I received: SuperMac Software P. O. Box 390725 Mountain View, CA 94039 Dear Sir/Madam: I have just purchased Version 5.0 of SuperSpool. After one morning's experience with it, I am less than pleased with the product, for the following reasons: 1. LOSS OF DATA: With my printer turned off, I printed several documents. SuperSpool's PrintQueue DA said that they were printing, and the spool files slowly disappeared, just as if they were! When they had completely disappeared from PrintQueue (and from the spool folder), I turned on the ImageWriter and nothing happened - they were truly gone. Although things seem to work fine (but see below) if I'm careful to have my printer on and ready before I print anything, I find the loss of data under these circumstances inexcusable. 2. While I found no caveats in the manual or release notes about this, it seems that I cannot print a window using Command-shift-4 while SuperSpool is installed. At best, I get only a beep; at worst I have to restart my Mac. Even "Deinstalling" SuperSpool from the PrintQueue DA does not seem to help cure the problem. 3. Contrary to the indications on manual pages 12-13, I seem to get a separate SuperSpool file for each PAGE of any multipage document. Thus the Preview window is always previewing a single-page document, and the mini-arrows and "Page x of y" at the bottom of the Preview window do not appear. The "Status" line is always "Printing page 1 of 1". I suppose it could be considered a feature to be able to schedule and cancel each page of a multi-page document separately, but the manual certainly does not seem to document this "feature." 4. While typing text into Word 3.01 at the same time SuperSpool was printing a document, the display of input characters in the Word window sometimes lags my typing by 6-10 characters. I do type with both hands, but am by no means a fast typist. 5. I have gotten one page of garbled output from SuperSpool (see enclosed sample). This may have been a result of trying to print a window with Command-shift-4 (?), but the garbled output was printed AFTER restarting the Mac, and with no fancy tricks tried after the restart. All of this has taken place on a Mac Plus with 2.5M of memory and a 20M hard disk, running under MultiFinder of System 5.0. I look forward to a update to Version 5.0 which will fix these problems.
