The reason that the DeskJet can't back up in graphics is lack of RAM, as I understand it. Sorry that I didn't make that clear. So, keeping the price down means limiting RAM, and limiting RAM means that the printer can only back up inside a narrow band (the previous line or two). I have been told that HP has a new Prom for the Deskjet that fixes this but will not release it to the public. It might be possible to fix it with a cartridge. There are already RAM cartridges for soft fonts, and and Epson emulation cartridge. Though I work at HP, I have no idea what the printer people are up to, so I can't speculate on what they may or may not be working on. But, if they are not releasing something, it is probably because it isn't finished. wunder
