The ones we buy come with a stainless steel ring sticking out of the top, and little perches to insert around the bottom. We use ordinary (but strong) string and hang the suet cake loose from a tree branch, approx 6 feet from the ground. The birds go crazy for it!! Most don't even use the little perches inserted in the suet cake--the either hang on the side or sit on the top of the suet cake. It goes quickly! Good luck! Coni
