Help!

I broke the volume control pot on my original Hayes 1200 modem.  I replaced it
with a 50K pot, but it doesn't seem to have much affect on the volume.  What 
value should I use?  Anyone out there want to take apart their modem and 
measure this value for me?  (I acually broke the pot in 3 pieces, so I can't
measure it my self)
