Message-ID: <3479@phri.UUCP> Date: 13 Sep 88 18:54:14 GMT Organization: Public Health Research Institute, NYC, NY Lines: 41 I just got my copy of Inter*Poll. Playing around I noticed that if I ask for unnamed objects, I get something without a name on socket 4 of virtually everything on the net. Here's the output (slightly reformatted to make it more readable). Net Node Name Skt Type Zone 14081 14 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14081 14 Laser 9 130 LaserWriter PHRI-AT 14081 14 Laser 11 133 LaserWriter PHRI-AT 14337 37 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14337 37 Dave Perlin 250 Macintosh Plus PHRI-AT 14337 54 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14337 54 pinter 186 Macintosh Plus PHRI-AT 14337 68 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14337 68 AmbiMac rm 961 234 Macintosh Plus PHRI-AT 14337 76 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14337 76 MacZardi-II 253 Macintosh II PHRI-AT 14337 78 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14337 78 Big Mac 253 Macintosh Plus PHRI-AT 14337 83 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14337 83 Mac on the left 154 Macintosh Plus PHRI-AT 14337 95 -- 4 -- PHRI-AT 14337 95 mac on right 250 Macintosh Plus PHRI-AT 14337 162 Laser 12 218 LaserWriter PHRI-AT 14337 166 Laser 10 186 LaserWriter PHRI-AT 14337 220 4 PHRI-AT 14337 220 128.122.136.150 72 IPGATEWAY PHRI-AT Laser{9,11} are invocations of lwsrv running on the same machine. The last two entries are a kbox running KIP. The question is, what are these mystery socket 4 things? BTW, if you have an AppleTalk network and don't have Inter*Poll, you should get yourself a copy. It's a really nice way to see what's going on around your net. The only stupid thing about it is the name. -- Roy Smith, System Administrator Public Health Research Institute {allegra,philabs,cmcl2,rutgers}!phri!roy -or- phri!roy@uunet.uu.net "The connector is the network"
