I've *never* been bit by Format, but I have been bit by ReLabel.... but since I got the wrong results using the colon on the new volume name it was obvious I had to omit the colon.... Even so, these meager special-case examples are hardly enough reason to go changing (or complaining) about the filesystem naming conventions. UNIX is not without its quirks either... for instance, having to ignore the '.' and '..' entries when traversing directories. Having to check for and ignore (sometimes) softlinks, having to worry about non-files (devices) and other things.... It builds up! -Matt
