Unfortunately, they're not IFF formats. One nice thing about IFF is that even if you can't understand the format, you can at least browse it and look at '(c) ', AUTH, and other such chunks. You can even manipulate IFF files to some extent without knowing the first thing about their contents... see, for example, the IFF CAT archiver.
