	In case you didn't know, I recently moved out of my parents house
and into an entirely different house with my girlfriend and another
gentleman named Dan Heller.  In an attempt to remain in touch with the
world, I tried to have my phone number moved.

	PAC*BELL said, "Sure, we'll install a new line at your new home, and
put a referral on your old number."  So they disconnected my old number, and
put a referral on it ("The number you have reached....has been changed.  The
new number is...").

	Imagine my surprise when they told me that the only way to feed a
new (third) line into the house was to dig a 100-foot trench, lay the new
line down, patch up the road (in a brand new development, no less), and hook
it up.  Imagine my even further surprise when they told me that I would have
to pay for this operation.  Imagine even greater quantities of surprise when
the estimate for the work was for $1300.  In the meantime, my "new" number
was really an alias for NIL:, even though it did "ring".

	To make a long story short, I now share one of the two existing
lines in the house, and just got finished wiring it up.

	So, if you call my old number, you will get a referral that points
you to a number that has a reasonably high probability of me picking it up.

	I'm sorry if this fiasco has inconvenienced anyone unduly.
