I am quite satisfied with the design of IFF, thank you, and I don't see how
a new (and eventually incompatible) standard can help. Certainly I don't
see how making it into a chain of chunks (as you seem to want) can help...
a tree is much more powerful.

Now I do agree that the sample IFF code is a lot more complex than it needs
to be. A cleaner version of that would help immensely.
