It is now filled with reviews of Postscript printers, ranging in price from $1,995 to $24,995. This surely is not something like "If in our judgement the information might be of interest to the personal computing experimenters and homebrewers who read BYTE, we print it in some form" (June 1981 BYTE) I have yet to see a "personal computing experimenter and homebrewer" who will spend a couple of $1,000 for a laser printer. I, for one, will dis-continue my subscription to BYTE when the current one expires. My new favorite is Steve Ciarcia's "Circuit Cellar INK". It's not so much SW, but HE cares for the experimenter and homebrewer. He often offers to download SW for his projects from his BBS (I like the idea, although I have yet to find a way to access this BBS from Europe, CCITT vs. BELL 103/212). I sincerely hope that Steve will stick to this policy and that his INK magazine will continue to care for the experimeters and homebrewers. At least, as far as INK is concerened there is more to the computing world than IBMs, IBM clones, IBM look-alikes, IBM sound-alikes (OK, I'll throw in the odd Mac, Atari and Amiga, but for me everything that comes in a case where I can't see those lovely little black beasties is just worthless (I have an SB180FX/GT180 designed by ... You guessed it Steve Ciarcia)). The same I said above about BYTE applies to DDJ: I was glad when I saw that our company's library had subscribed to DDJ, but I shuddered when I opened the latest issue. * ** Josef Moellers * * paper-mail: ***** * c/o Nixdorf Computer AG * * Abt.
