I think that the answer is simple, if you trust the mail.... 1) Go to the nearest international AIRPORT (I realize this might not be too easy, but for some people it is only an hour drive or less). 2) Pick a bank in the international terminal. There are (I think) three different ones in the San Francisco airport. They all offer competitive exchange rates. 3) This is the hard part. Trust the mail enough so that if someone steals your $$$ or it gets lost you won't be too upset. But I don't think this happens too often, so this is only a minor worry....
