I am having a recurring panic (nightly): kernel: PANIC: General Protection Trap The error code is '8' The pc register is at: 0020:0000001C This is happening every night, and sometimes thru the day. It has the same values EVERY time. I know that General Protection indicates a hardware fault, but where? The pc value points to a "start" routine in the kernel in segment 0020:00000000. Does anyone know how I can go about analyzing the data I am getting from the error messages to help determine the culprit. I swapped out my EGA board and am planning some memory tests. The only thing the manual tells me is that it points to hardware fault. I saw a discussion in comp.unix.xenix a month or so ago about locating the routines in the kernel. But "start" doesn't tell *ME* anything. If anyone knows how I might narrow down my search, I would be greatly in your debt! This is really starting to bug me! By the way, the problem started *AFTER* we replaced a defective hard drive with a new one, although I cannot immediately see why a new harddisk would be the problem. We are using a Data Technology RLL 2-harddrive controller on the Tandy 4000. Any ideas? You can email me responses to "mjbtn!root@killer.Dallas.TX.US. Thanks in advance! Mark. -- Mark J.
