I hope this will help, I spent HOURS solving these riddles. The eye can
be found at the bottem level of the catacombs, in an area that you cannot
PHDO through. If you map the entire level, you will find a square that
teleports you into the closed area. You must then defeat ?????, I forget
who, and you will find the eye.  But it gets worse <fanfare>....

I think the riddle mentioned has the answer "shield", or something close.
In response you will find a shield of Yabarra, which can be used in combat
to lower your armor class, another two I believe.
