Almost right away, the drive started making a high-pitched squeaking or chirping sound. It only occurs when a disk is in the drive (or when the door lever is closed without a disk in) and the drive is actually turning. It seems to be synchronized with the turning of the drive, i.e., once per revolution. At first it only happened intermittently, but now (after three days) it's doing it almost all the time starting shortly after power-up. I called CBM Customer Service, and the person said it was normal for the drive to be noisier than a 1541 (which I also have), and not to worry about it. I'm perfectly happy to live with it, provided it's not damaging the drive or my disks. Does anybody know what might be causing it, and whether I need to get it serviced? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance! Ed Flaherty Bellcore nvuxl!ejf
