It might be plausible to consider asking AT&T to release the 9th Edition commercially if one could convince *all* of their licensees (including DEC, IBM, and a few other companies) to in turn convince *all* of their customers that this is the right thing to do. What AT&T really doesn't want is to support more than one version of Unix themselves (independant of the fact that they'd rather the other variants all went away). What would this take?
