The post was responded to by one of the net's more respected members, R.A. Jung. Robert's response was apropos and nowhere near as out of line as the following second-generation flame-response:] >Airhead, Mr. Jung? >Visit the real world, you say? > Thank you for winning a bet for me. It took longer than I expected for >one of the tiny minds of usenet to start hurling insults because I DARED to >queestion the scared cow of the week. I bet a friend $100 bucks about the kind >of answer would come back from my posting. You, Mr. Jung won it for me. > You see, my friend could not believe what I told him about the cowardly >practice of `flaming' that goes on here. It is so safe to sit in your office or >dorm and throw insults at those who do not agree with you. If you had ever >wandered out into this `real world' you mention you would know this. I see >you have not. Try it sometime. You might be surprised how people react when you >call them names for not agreeing with you. > As you can now see I ALSO like to discuss trivial things, Mr. Jung. Like the >focus of this posting. ...now, please correct me if 'm wrong on two assumptions: 1) Portal now has a "if you flame on the net, you lose your access" policy 2) The above response was indeed a flame. ...it seems to me that the Portal admin either has been negligent in it's enforcement of policy once again, or this "Mr. Lane" has simply chosen to ignore any warnings/threats/promises of access loss to "win his bet". ...personally, I've chosen to believe both. Despite the claims of the Portal admin, as well as keeping the promise to force the posting of *REAL* names in the header, I still have found very little proof to substantiate any validity to their word. As for the other aspect, simply look at the tone of "Mr. Lane's" reply and you'll see what I mean. Tsk. It's such a shame, you know. After they punted Wasser@Portal off for being an ass, I was actually ready to give Portal as a whole a second chance. But now....tsk. OM ...seriously, how many people are really gullible enough to wager 100 bucks on such a stupid bet? Not many, although I'd love to alk with those who would, as I am always in need of cash :-).
