I've found that Pat Wood's _UNIX System Security_, while
SysV-intensive, is nonetheless a very good all-around sort of guide to
the more common but not necessarily obvious problems of keeping your
system buttoned down tight.  Find a copy; I last saw it (right after
publication, I think) about 2 years ago - should be readily findable
in most computer-related bookstores.  It'll give you a good outlook, a
mindset suited to detecting those sorts of problems.
