My favorite theory is that the delays were intentional to foil anybody
trying to fly in a kamikaze model airplane with a zip gun.   :-)

Even the carefully orchestrated hesitation in the last couple of minutes when
they were threatening to stop the clock at 31 seconds and then didn't would
tend to throw off anyone relying on close timing.	:-) :-) :-)  (mostly)
