Hi ---

"Electronic Engineering Times" has run several good articles on
the Shuttle computer systems, etc. within the last month (sorry
I don't have the exact issue dates handy).  I remember an article
describing the on-board computers (1970s vintage, mfd. by IBM,
with core memory) which mentioned plans for upgrading them in the
near future.  Also, the latest issue talks about the computers &
display systems in Mission Control, and how they are just getting
around to replacing Apollo-era stuff (monochrome text-only displays
connected to old mainframes, which show messages in hexadecimal
requiring look-up in a code book or reference card, etc.) with
more timely technology.  Both very interesting articles, and well
worth looking for at your local library, info. center, or whatever.
