I agree that this is *NOT* a BBS or file service. It is an education-based medium for the proper support and dessimination (sp?) of information in the *proper forums*. A binary newsgroup should *only* have binaries and source newsgroups likewise. A discussion group such as comp.sys.ibm.pc should be such and not have programs or WANT ADS (hint, hint folks!), but for every request to do things by the "rules" there is at least one rulebreaking post. My point is that a system like this should not be constrained to what is RIGHT, but what the users will agree to abide by. I really do not feel like the PC users are lazy or afraid to change, but wish to remain in familiar territory. Why force them to use Un*x conventions when it really is not necessary? I predict that the ensuing net.confusion if you got your way would be chaos! Look at the flurry of "I missed part 6" responses on postings. Just imagine what would happen if the post was in two or even three Newsgroups! (.binary.,.source.,.docs.) Besides, there IS NO comp.sources.ibm.pc ....yet. Bottom line: your idea has merit but it will never fly. -- * Charles Lord ..!decvax!mcnc!ecsvax!cjl Usenet (old) * * Cary, NC cjl@ecsvax.UUCP Usenet (new) * * #include cjl@ecsvax.BITNET Bitnet * * #include cjl@ecsvax.uncecs.edu Internet *
