At least 1 session at every SHARE meeting for the last 4 years has been devoted to 8x - at the very least an update from the SHARE rep to X3J3, and this past spring in LA a panel discussion with 5 or 6 members of X3J3 and some very vocal users. As of mid-year, SHARE now has a representative on X3J3 - prior to that SHARE was represented by someone who was also a company rep to that body. Though the represetation was excellent, it was felt that a rep that had no potential conflict between employer/SHARE positions would be better. IBM did distribute a packet of info on the standard, I belive to every site with a FORTRAN license and every individual registered to receive FORTRAN manuals automatically throught their (gag) SLSS system. This information, though, was TOTALY negative towards the standard and did not, IMHO, present a balanced view of the two sides of the argument.
