I would have done a followup, but my rn insists on giving me
an "interp buffer overflow" on that message.  Sigh.

  As I remember, BITnet is tree, and there is a unique path between any pair
of machines.  I also think that most growth occurs on leaves -- at least
that's the way things seemed to happen a couple years ago at CMU.
