I run a Xerox 820-I and my brother-in-law runs a Xerox 16/8 which is a souped-up Xerox 820-II with an 8088 co-processor to let it run MS-DOS. So to answer your first question, YES, the Xerox 820 is still very much alive and in regular use. I don't know of any comm package that supports vt100 on the 820-II. The main reason is that the video chip does not support many of the features available on a vt100. Even if you could find a comm package that supports vt100, it would have to be an incomplete emulation due to the hardware restrictions. Kermit is available for the Xerox 820. I don't use it so I don't have it myself. You can use any comm package that supports either the 820-I, 820-II, or 16/8. All three use the same serial chip (Z-80 SIO-0). The video features are slightly different on each machine though. Kermit should be available from Simtel20 on Arpanet. They have a very extensive public domain library of CP/M software. Software can be downloaded from Simtel20 via FTP.
