There are three things you can do in the meantime:

	1. Call up MANX and bitch, bitch, bitch.
	2. Change the case from 'x' to some other character.
	3. If 2. is not satisfactory, just fix the screwed up
	   assembly that cc produces when using 'x'.

I have done 1. & 3. and now my code works the way I want to and I feel a
little better about letting MANX know that their support has not been
satisfactory lately.
