A) make sure th joystick buttons aren't down, or that the JS is unplugged.

B) make sure that if you have an external speaker connect that it isn't
shorted out. (this happened to me once, and it was *mighty* confusing.
However, this doesn't sound like the same problem.)

C) NEVER NEVER unplug or plug in a UniDisk into the port when the power is
on, or anything into the back of the unidisk.  If that was done, go get a
new motherboard.
