The instrument is used to analyse software behaviour on a system. It connects to the machine via a probe. This probe replaces the cpu. So it sits on the bus measuring wat is going on. The problem for the 80386 is the SAW doesn't know about paging. It can only "measure" programs who are static and contigue in memory. This is not the case for unix application programs.
