TeX, C version 2.9, compiled with gcc 1.29 on a Sun-3/280, now passes
the trip test.  All of the supporting software, including tangle,
dvitype, and web2c, were also compiled with gcc.  I was able to turn
on optimization for every file but one, tex4.c; I'm going to report
that core dump to bug-gcc.
