Actually, I used to read a lot of Stephen King's books...
back before he started cranking them out weekly (anyone see the Saturday
Night Live spoof on S. King last year -- it was supposed to be an interview
with him in his den where he's typing away madly on his "new" novel while
being interviewed... all of a sudden he stops, looking puzzled. "Writer's
block?" suggests the interviewer. A few seconds later he says "no" and 
keeps on typing away madly. it was pretty funny).

The Shining was my favourite. Too bad the movies didn't live up to the books,
like FireStarter or Cujo...
Anyways, my point is I know a bit about the author and I knew you were'nt
him.
