Dan Lyons will lead this week's discussion, which will focus on the importance of intonation. The following papers are available in the box labelled "Cognitive science/Natural language discussion group", in the AI lab (room SF3204). Look on the shelves to your right as you enter the lab. 1. pp 86-91 of TINLAP 1987, an untitled position paper by Julia Hirschberg 2. "The Intonational Structuring of Discourse" by Julia Hirschberg and Janet Pierrehumbert (pp136-143 of ACL 1986 (New York)) The first paper is a brief introduction to the topic. The discussion group will meet every second friday during the term. All are welcome to attend.
