I am investigating the building of an expert system as a 
diagnostic tool (for a production software/hardware system).
From the literature I have read, it appears that a backward-chaining
expert shell would be the best method.  Have I come to the wrong
conclusion?  Is it feasable to use a forward-chaining inference
engine?
