Just a couple short questions:

1) Which C compiler does the best optimization, is closest to the ANSI
   standard, etc.? (In other words, what's the BEST C compiler? I've heard
   that MSC 5.0 and GCC are very good.)

2) Has anyone ever written a compiler for a language (say X), used that to
   write a compiler for language Y, and then wrote a compiler for X
   in Y? In other words, (for example) a C compiler written in PASCAL
   which itself was written in C?
