Bush is engaging in the sort of distortion of record which is a normal part of American politics. (Sometimes he is reporting Dukakis' record accurately, which is even more hazardous for Dukakis). A number of people on the Left are engaged in a whispering campaign making grave criminal accusations against Bush, even though there is no credible evidence to back up the claims. Even journalists on the Left here, like Alexander Cockburn, admit the claims are so outrageous, and the evidence so flimsy, that it doesn't warrant accusations. -- Clayton E.
