Smail 3 is still in alpha test. No word on when the beta release will come out. Version 3 is a plug-in replacement for BSD sendmail. Perhaps its nicest feature is there is *no* sendmail.cf to worry about. There is support for multiple routers and transports. The code is very portable -- we are currently testing it under SunOS3.5 on Sun 3's, CTIX 5.23, SVR3 on 3B2's, and I'll be starting on a VaxStation 2000 port next month. The code won't be released until it has had a complete shakedown, which will take a while longer. It *will* be worth the wait.
