I think the term is "Pollyanism". There are many # people who act as if they truly believed that this is the best of all # possible worlds. And in an election year, yet. I've since retracted my statements in that article, and among the reasons was that "fascism" was both too strong a term and was not technically correct. However, "pollyamism" doesn't completely describe the attitude I've been yelling about. Let's try "paternalism". There are people on the net, who run large and busy machines, who feel that neither you nor your router can find your (its) way out of a paper bag without help from them and their rerouters. Or that you might auto-route something along what they feel to be a suboptimal path. Or whatever -- other reasons have been put forth, and I'm not going to list all of them here. But the bottom line, is: They Are Going To Do You A Favor, Whether You Want Them To Or Not; It's For Your Own Good, And They Know What's Good For You Better Than You Do.
