The connect command, to do a remote login (like my term program), works ok. However, when I start up kermit on the remote side (a SUN) in server mode, escape back to MINIX, and start sending, it goes ok for a while, then it sort of dies. Since I am SENDING from the MINIX side, this can't be due to lack of buffer space, and I think an unloaded SUN 3/60 workstation ought to be able to collect characters at 1200 baud without any trouble. I also notice that initially, say the first 30,000 characters or so, the modem lights show a burst of transmission from MINIX for about a second (90 bytes at 1200 baud = 750 msec), then a very short receive burst (probably an ACK), then immediately another transmit, another receive, etc. Looks fine. After some minutes, this pattern changes and kermit starts typing T% instead of ".". The new pattern has a burst of transmission, but as soon as the transmission starts, SUN kermit sends something back, and whatever it is, it is longer than what MINIX is sending. Normally the SUN side waits until the transmission from MINIX is done. In this mode it is sending something else, long, and immediately. I have turned on the various kermit logging facilities, but I can't make any sense out of the output. Is there anyone who understands kermit well enough to know what is going on here? Could other people please post their experiences with kermit on MINIX? Andy Tanenbaum (ast@cs.vu.nl)
