I want to make it run in protected mode and use the hardware resources provided by the 386 processor. My plans are to (try) to compile minix with the GNU C compiler (GCC). This will also require some changed startup code. I will have to do the compilations under some other operating system. Once I have a protected mode minix I will port all the GNU software to it. But I race ahead of my immediate requirements. Is there an archive site on the arpanet that I can get the patches to bring my minix sources up to release 1.3? I want to start this project with the latest sources. I plan to first build an AT version of minix and get it running on my 386 to familiarize myself with minix. I will be using the TURBOC 1.5 compiler. Has anyone already done this? I would be delighted to cooperate with anyone else undertaking a similar project with either TURBOC or GCC.
