Message-ID: <4XPpsjB58k-0A7TkcI@andrew.cmu.edu> Date: 2 Nov 88 19:12:47 GMT Sender: daemon@ucbvax.BERKELEY.EDU Organization: The Internet Lines: 28 At the Humanities college at Carnegie Mellon we are interested in implementing transparent backups for our Mac II's. I have been asked to investigate using CAP 5.0 with Macdump, and Macrestore to implement such a system. Background: We currently have approximately sixty Mac II's from the entire college that we would like to provide with automatic backups onto a Vaxstation 2000 running Ultrix 2.2. The Mac's are connected to our Appletalk network using a PhoneNet/Kinetics Box/Ethernet "solution". My Request: I would be interested in receiving any information concerning the implementation of such a system. Are the CAP and Macdump 'packages' stable enough for heavy usage? Are they're any factors about using a 2000 that I should be aware of? Personal opinions and/or anecdotes by people who have already installed such a system are extremely welcome. If I receive enough information I'll attempt to summarize trends, tips and information for posting. Thanks in advance, Matt McNally Please send your replies to: mm3d@andrew.cmu.edu
