I used capacitor leads (thanks for the tip, Brad). I picked up a machine
socket, placed it under the board in the right position, and inserted the
capacitor leads through the board and into the socket. When they were all
in place, I raised the socket off the board by about 1/2" or so and
soldered the wires in place on both the board and the socket. Not a pretty
sight, but a solution nonetheless.
