The sound chips in the IIGS are the Ensoniq Q chip as used in the Mirage
and ESQ synths.  As soon as the IIGS came out I discovered this (see the BYTE
with the IIGS on the cover, I don't know the date - around Oct '86 ? or is
it '85 ).  I called Ensoniq to see if they were going to make the chips
available on the open market, but they weren't.  Maybe now that they have
new improved versions (EPS) maybe they will sell them to experimentors.  I
didn't try the service department, maybe that would work.
